He Could Not Go and See the Factory. We Went for Him.

Jude Gbekou has run Cuir Esthetica for close to twenty years. The company, based between Quebec City and Montreal, recently expanded into Togo.

He was looking for one specific machine: a sealing machine for aluminium cans and PET bottles. Industrial equipment — the kind you do not replace every year, and that has to work from day one.

And the machine was not for him. It was meant for someone else, who trusted him to find it.

China makes that machine, at prices the North American market cannot match.

What stood in his way

One thing only, and it was not the price.

The fear of a dishonest supplier. Ordering industrial equipment from thousands of kilometres away, from people you have never met, in a factory you cannot be sure exists. Paying up front. Waiting. And perhaps finding out you have been taken.

That fear stops most buyers before they even start. It is a reasonable fear.

And one very practical obstacle remained: he was in Quebec, and the factory was in China. He could not drop everything to go and see for himself.

Here it was sharper still. Getting it wrong for yourself is a bad deal. Getting it wrong for someone who trusted you is something else: it is not just your money on the line, it is your word.

What we did

We went to the factory in his place.

We are based in China. We went on site, we saw the machine, we met the people who build it. Then we reported back what we had seen — not a catalogue, not a spec sheet sent by the seller, but what our own eyes had seen on the shop floor.

On site, we negotiated the price directly with the manufacturer — no middleman, no hidden commission.

Then we organised the entire shipment to destination.

The outcome

The machine arrived intact and matched what had been negotiated.

It was received on 28 July 2026. Jude never had to board a plane.

What Jude says about it

Jude recorded this from Quebec City after the machine arrived. He speaks in French; our English translation follows, with his original words underneath.

We are taking this opportunity to thank our partners InvestWorld in China, in the person of Serge Ipem and his whole team, who did a wonderful job. People you can trust, who worked hard to send us these goods.

I recommend them strongly. These are people you can do business with, efficient people, who really work with Canadian know-how mixed with Chinese know-how. It is a solid cocktail.

I invite you to work with them. You will be truly satisfied.

His original words, in French: « Des gens de confiance, qui ont travaillé fort pour nous envoyer ces marchandises. […] Avec le know-how canadien mélangé au chinois. C’est un cocktail solide. »

What this journey shows

Buying industrial equipment in China is not dangerous in itself. What is dangerous is buying it blind.

Seeing the factory changes everything: you know who manufactures, you see the production line, you talk to the manager, you negotiate face to face. The price comes down and the risk disappears at the same time.

But not everyone can cross half the world to walk through a workshop. That is precisely why we are based in China: so our clients do not have to be.

That is what we do, from China, for entrepreneurs in Canada and across Africa.

Have a machine or a piece of equipment to bring in from China?

Tell us which one. We will go and see the factory — you will not need to be there.
